Introduction and Package Contents

Known for the quality of its entry-level terminals, Nokia continues on this path and starts the C3, a template located halfway between a phone and a smartphone. Intended for a young and dynamic, the new terminal of the Finnish manufacturer offers a technical base, topped with a physical QWERTY keyboard.

Offered at a very aggressive price, the Nokia hopes C3 therefore come to play spoilsport in the supply of entry-level phones. A bet in uncertain time when some Android smartphones are sold at attractive rates. The C3 has he the means for its ambitions? Is he able to appeal to teenagers today? Elements of response on this issue.

Before addressing the features of mobile evoke first the contents of the box which comes in the Nokia C3. Include:

- AC charger
- A USB transfer cable
- A stereo headset
- MicroSD Memory Card 2 GB
- Instructions for use

A box actually quite classic in which we noted the presence of a microSD memory card of 2 GB is an excellent initiative by the Finnish manufacturer, to the extent that the C3 enplane 55 MB of internal memory. For the rest, all the accessories seem well made and trimmed for a long-term use.
Design and finishes

The Nokia C3 adopts a compact design. The ensemble rather look good and looks by far the Nokia E63 or some BlackBerry models. In terms of dimensions, the new terminal of the Finnish manufacturer opts for discretion and ergonomics (115.5 x 58.1 x 13.6 mm), all at a low weight (114 grams). The C3 will thus be forgotten in any pocket.

In the field finishes, C3 seduced by its strength and its rounded shapes. The phone has a plastics of most beautiful effect, since the set off a real strength. We also liked the presence of an aluminum plate that covers the battery, which reinforces the impression of solidity.

In terms of design, the C3 is therefore think some BlackBerry models. We found a 2.4-inch (320 x 240 pixels) below which accommodated several keys. To facilitate access to certain features of the phone, Nokia has opted for two orders of metal acting as shortcuts to writing text messages and access to social networks. There is also a directional trackpad at the center of the phone. Beneath all this lies the physical QWERTY keyboard, looks like two drops of water models embedded on BlackBerry.

On slices of the lodge phones microSD memory card slot and micro-USB port. The radius of the puzzles, we note the absence of buttons for triggering the camera and volume control system that Nokia has not seen fit to enter on his terminal. To adjust the listening volume, you have to go through the directional trackpad (up and down keys). Impractical.

On the top of the phone found the charging plug and jack 3.5 mm, with which you connect any headphones or earphones on the market. Finally the back is situated a 2-megapixel sensor which side does not appear, unfortunately, no LED flash.
Grip and overall use

First things first, namely the starting time of the phone. In this area, the Nokia C3 shows could not be more convincing, since it takes only 5 seconds between small power up the terminal and the appearance of the screen prompting you to enter your PIN.

In line with this quick start, the C3 seduced by its fluidity. The Symbian S40 makes a persuasive and stable, as we have found no bugs or even slow down during use.

The home screen includes, in addition to traditional information (time, date, battery status, network status), three bands in which you can integrate several application shortcuts: optional calendar, chat, social networks, countdown, favorite contacts, general indicators, notes, emails, notices, radio and music, web search, wlan. A good move from Nokia, since it saves time.

Physical QWERTY keyboard, similar to the BlackBerry models, appears quite convincing and enjoyable to use, thanks to its slightly domed keys that prevent us to press two keys at once. Nevertheless they remain quite small and filled with nails users will benefit at this level.

The 2.4-inch (320 x 240 pixels) offers for its correct rendering. Forget, however, the contrasts or bright colors, the screen of the Nokia C3 is satisfied with a very traditional view.
Regarding the quality of communication, nothing special to report, the rendering is clear and precise.

In the area of autonomy, the C3 is doing very well and shows good performance. With its 1320 mAh battery, you can use your phone several days, without having to reload.
Internet connectivity

The Nokia C3 has connectivity somewhat atypical, since there is a compatibility WiFi 802.11 b / g but not 3G. We must therefore settle for EDGE network.

To take advantage of all this, there is the Opera Mini browser. If the opening is fast, the navigation is it much less convincing. The page display is actually quite laborious loading times are often substantial. There is still a slight improvement when the terminal is connected to a WiFi network.

In addition, the small screen makes navigation very pleasant and we must constantly zoom in the heart of pages to display content readable. You will therefore understand that the Nokia browser C3 can be considered a temporary solution and not as a real navigation tool.

Email management is also integrated. The C3 is compatible with all major protocols (POP3, SMTP) and offers a simplified configuration for Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo and Orange.

Become unavoidable, social networks are integrated into the Nokia C3. Through the menu "Community" from the terminal, you access your accounts and Facebook and Twitter.

To download new applications but also ringtones or images, the user is invited to visit the Ovi Store, the download platform of the Finnish manufacturer. Grouping content by category and price, the market resumed its Nokia competitor organization such as the Android Market or the Samsung Apps.

Bluetooth 2.1 and A2DP allows you to connect to nearby devices to exchange files.
Multimedia and Camera

Next is the multimedia features of Nokia C3, through the evaluation of photographic and musical performances.

The Finnish manufacturer's new phone is equipped with a 2 megapixel sensor. In other words, the C3 does not seem destined to photography. An impression confirmed in practice, since the images produced are very poor and starved for details. Due to the absence of LED flash, it will simply forget the pictures taken at night.

Some results:

The video mode does not show much more convincing. Performed in a rather limited resolution (320 x 240 pixels), records as sufficiently detail and are subject to some jerks. At the heart of this horizon somewhat obscure, a point is still to report. The videos produced are very small and will be easily exportable to video sharing sites like YouTube.

Turning now to the music player the Nokia C3. The MP3 player is compatible with formats MP3/WAV/WMA/eAAC. The sound output is not extraordinary, but still remains acceptable. We note with pleasure the presence of a sound equalizer (7 modes) which allows a more faithful to our preferences. However, the quality of headphones offered leaves to be desired. Fortunately, the 3.5mm jack to connect any headphones or earphones on the market.

The video player is compatible with formats MP4/AVI/H.264/H.263/WMV. Reading files, even the heaviest, is quite satisfactory, since it finds no major slowdown.

It concludes this part by pointing out the presence of FM RDS tuner with which you listen and memorize your favorite stations.
