Nokia 6300 introduction

Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Sagem ... all manufacturers have succumbed to the fashion of slim mobile. Absent only on the field of slim Nokia. Often in advance, the Finnish giant accuses a year late with the release of 6300, its first phone to below 12 mm thick. At a time when Samsung has launched a piece of less than 6 mm in profile (the U100 shows 5.9 mm in length), the 6300 is it capable of fighting in the same category? In addition to its relative subtlety, Nokia put on a stainless steel finish and neat performance multimedia applications. Nokia may pull it out of the game on a sector stormed not all manufacturers?

Positive points:
- Neat finish stainless
- Good camera
- Acoustics convincing
- Compatible with Edge
Negatives:
- Finesse relative
- No 3G
- Memory card too small
- Talk too tight

Contents of the box Nokia 6300

The delivery package of the Nokia 6300 is relatively straightforward. The only originality comes from the presence of a memory card format micro SD. Too bad it only shows a capacity of 128 MB barely enough to store two complete albums! Another regret, stereo kit, very basic and will not allow you to enjoy good music features of the terminal.

Found in the box:

- The Nokia 6300 phone
- Charger
- A USB cable
- A stereo kit
- The manual
- An installation CD
- A micro-SD memory card 128 MB

Design of the Nokia 6300

With its 11.7 mm thick, the 6300 is the thinnest mobile ever produced by the Finnish manufacturer. We are far from the 5.9 mm profile of U100 but with a year behind the slim mobile market, we can not ask for the moon with Nokia. The relative subtlety aside, the mobile has a remarkable finish. Its format piece and its compact dimensions (106.4 x 43.6 x 11.7 mm and weighs 91 grams) the fall in a range of traditional but attractive.

Main asset charm: the stainless steel finish of the hull. Synonymous with both technology and style, stainless steel blends in perfectly with the black lacquer coating surrounding the screen. This is no exception as over 16 displays millions of colors (16.7 exact) in a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. A boon for viewing videos and photos.

Part joystick as well as shortcut keys and buttons answer / end fit perfectly and discreetly on the phone. Only the keyboard is a bit disappointing. Indeed, the keys are slightly noisy. Furthermore, the thin-keys, we would have preferred models of curved edge like the Nokia E65. But enough nitpicking, the 6300 is a real aesthetic success. Nothing to spoil the blue backlight of the keyboard and two LEDs located on the edges of the phone is the most beautiful effect.

Big surprise, the sides of the terminal are abnormally devoid of dedicated keys. There are only buttons for adjusting the volume.

A shortcut to the camera or MP3 player would have been nice. Ditto for memory expansion port located underneath the battery cover. Despite these defects detrimental to the overall ergonomics, the Nokia 6300 has a sleek design. And even if it does not mount the podium terminals slim, its 11.7 mm did not include any of the range of slim phones.

Using the Nokia 6300

With the 6300, Nokia has relied on simple navigation. Exit shortcut keys Ideographs incomprehensible. Access to the interface is done via the joystick or the dedicated button below the screen.

The downside, multimedia functions, which are only accessible via menus.

Communication Specialist, Nokia is no exception to its rule of excellence. The sound is remarkable in conversation. Background noise is well mitigated and the voices are clear and limpid. In terms of performance, the 6300 has a remarkable sensitivity. Bars hang leveled networks and logo Edge rarely leaves the screen. A boon for fans of broadband.

Only weak point? As luck: autonomy. Bluetooth and MP3 player are very energy efficient. They require you to charge your phone every day. With a more moderate you pass the bar two days.
MP3 player of Nokia 6300

The Nokia 6300 is equipped with an MP3 player and FM radio. The player interface allows numerous settings:

- Track List
- Music Library (all tracks, artists, albums, genres, composers, lists of tracks, update)
- Options (Shuffle, Repeat)
- Media equalizer (normal, pop, rock, jazz, classic, Game 1, Game 2)
- Add to preferred list
- Read by Bluetooth
- Use tone
- E
- Homepage
- Music Downloads
- Memory status

The menu of the MP3 player is ergonomic and allows for example to download music or transfer it to a Bluetooth device without having to navigate through multiple sub-menus.

In terms of acoustics, the speaker delivers clear sound that is sometimes lacking in depth. Function improves significantly expanded stereo rendering. Difficult to say the same of different profiles of the equalizer that does not alter the sound enough. And it is impossible to set it manually. Do not turn the volume up, the crackling become too important and difficult intelligible voice.

The kit is supplied stereo summary and disappoint the most demanding in terms of acoustics. A 3.5mm jack would not have been refused. Recourse: the Bluetooth stereo that can connect your wireless headset of your choice.

In terms of storage, 7.8 MB of internal memory are unusable. Fortunately, Nokia has had the excellent idea to include in the package delivery micro-SD 128 MB However, it will not be too greedy because beyond about thirty pieces, the card is full.
Connectivity of the Nokia 6300

In terms of connectivity, the Nokia 6300 agrees with most current mobile. Indeed, it is silent on the Infrared and offers USB connection (cable included in the package delivery) and Bluetooth.

This is stereo and therefore permits the pairing with a compatible type of speakers or headphones.

The micro SD card is also provided a solution to transfer data with a computer or another phone. Only downside, its capacity limited to 128 MB

Finally, thanks to its EDGE connectivity, the Nokia 6300 can surf the broadband Internet and download various contents.

Camera of the Nokia 6300

The Nokia 6300 is equipped with a camera 2 megapixel without autofocus and flash. The application is activated from the multimedia menu, the terminal does not have dedicated buttons.

- Image preview time (3, 5, 10 seconds)
- Sounds camera
- Default Title
- Storing pictures (memory card folder)

Despite the lack of autofocus, shots of the Nokia 6300 are suitable. The sharpness is good and a drawing on paper is quite feasible. Provided, however, not to exceed the traditional photo format (10 x 15 cm) and have a good printer.
The colors are accurate and fairly faithful to the original subjects.
Only very slightly bluish white when the light is too abundant.

You can always try to resolve the problem by changing the white balance but the results are far from convincing. The effects are also unsatisfactory.

One regrets the absence of a black and white mode. We were pleasantly surprised by the ability to manage the sensor light variations. The highlights are not burned, even when sunlight is intense. Conversely, when the brightness decreases, the lack of flash and the low efficiency of penalizes severely the night mode photos.

Videos

- Movie length
- Mute
- Video clip quality (high, normal, basic)
- Video resolution (176 x 144, 128 x 96)

Even adjusting the quality of the clip on "high" and resolution 176 x 144 pixels, the videos are not good. Fortunately the screen improves the rendering and movies become viewable.

However, if you try to transfer them to your computer and read them then you will not regret the trip. Rasterization and slowdown are waiting for you.

Conclusion on Nokia 6300

Honest and decent camera phone music phone, the Nokia 6300 is for customers hungry for Multimedia.

While most techies will be a little disappointed, most will find his account and without breaking the bank (about 300 € without subscription).

On the design side, nothing wrong. If the initial impression made us miss a few millimeters too thick to use, stainless steel finish takes over and we were completely won over.

The main objections relate to the delivery kit which deserved a more powerful stereo kit and a memory card with a larger capacity.

Finally, the 6300 fits perfectly on the slim mobile sector by focusing on a neat and compelling applications.
