The Nokia 6500 slide has a screen 16 million colors, 240 x 320 pixels in dimensions of 46.5 x 16.4 x 96.5 mm and weighs 125 grams.
The Nokia 6500 slide has a camera, 3.2 megapixel (2048 x 1536 pixels), Autofocus, LED Flash, 8x Zoom, Carl Zeiss optics, video camera, 2nd camera for video. It also has bluetooth.
It has an internal memory of 20MB, and has a TransFlash card reader. The Nokia 6500 slide is compatible with UMTS / Quadband (GSM 850/900/1800/1900).
It is available since December 2007 in retail stores from 189 € (against 499 €).

No cover, but the number of accessories included is valuable, especially for the video cable. Damage, however, that the memory card has a capacity so small, given the price (and ridiculous) card or a 2GB ...
Getting Started
Mostly made of metal, the shell of 6500 Slide exudes good finish, and quality of some plastic parts is also up to our expectations.
Good news: the Slide does appear to be any game, even though we only had a prototype. We are far, far away, the quality of the N95 on this point, and so much better.
The screen adopts the same characteristics (320 * 240 pixels 16 million colors), the model "Classic", but adds a light sensor and more.
Unlike the Classic which has only one USB microphone jack, the Slide boards, in addition, an audio and video to 2.5 mm jack and a charger plug to the latest classic brand models.
The keyboard consists of large flat keys, no problem when writing messages, it appears even enjoyable to use.
A proven system
The terminal is based on the S40 platform from Nokia.
Symbian point here so he'll have to settle for Java applications to complement the functions and capabilities of your device.
The system equips virtually all phones not smartphones of the brand. Already in 6300 and 6555, it does not destabilize the organization of its menu, especially since the interface can be reviewed by the user (changing the order of menus, display or appearance with numerous themes).
The possibilities offered by this system, although less advanced than Symbian S60, will be amply sufficient for most users.
Thus, synchronize your calendar or address book with your PC / Mac will be a mere formality with PC Suite or the various plug-ins available for iSync.

Connectivity
Wireless connectivity of 6500 is fairly complete: thin quad-band GSM support with EDGE, and presence of connectivity (UMTS video calls not possible though).
No HSDPA, so even if this connection will be more useful on a smartphone (mobile web, downloads, ...).
The mobile also has Bluetooth A2DP profile allows the use of helmets with no son. As a guide, in our tests of file transfers, the maximum speed was set at approximately 150Ko/sec.
In terms of autonomy, we had to recharge the battery every 3 days. Again, it is possible that the final version improves this.
Menus
1) Messaging
This menu is classic with other Nokia. The T9 system board is still effective. The sending of MMS and email is of course quite possible on this model.
Like all non-Symbian Nokia lately, smileys are included in the mail.

2) Contacts
This is your telephone directory. The sorting is done, by choice, by name or surname. Creating and managing groups of contacts is possible.
Obviously you can associate a ringtone and a dedicated photo to a contact or a group.
Note that the photo displayed when a call is still small, especially compared to Sony Ericsson terminals.

3) Call records
It's your call log, which references your dialed / received / missed as well as SMS and network connections.

4) Parameters
Almost everything is customizable in the Nokia 6500. Themes (with change of icons), tones, modes, the screen saver (slide show of photos available) ...
5) Gallery
Classic Menu for mobile brand in Finland, to browse files stored on your mobile.
For photos, display full screen and scrolling slide show are of course available.
6) Multimedia
- Camera: The camera is composed by a goal of 3.2 million pixels, aided by a system of autofocus, which is great news. The photographs produced by the 6500 Slide are of reasonable quality, but those are not worth a K810i for example, despite their identical specifications

- Video: Video can be recorded to a resolution of 640 * 480 pixels, enough to enjoy the video output to share your clips in a very reasonable quality.
- Music player: MP3 player and video from your 6500. The proposed functions are complete enough for a phone of this range, and satisfy users not too demanding. For fans of mobile music, other models will be much more efficient and dedicated to this task (eg the 5310).

- Equalizer: Lets you change the sound of the songs in the MP3 player.

7) Organizer
- Alarm: small alarm clock built into your Nokia. The alarm can be activated by a tone, an MP3 music.

- Events: Classic on such phones, the agenda is fairly comprehensive for the vast majority of the clientele served by this terminal.

- Do: tasks
- Notes: small text files (. Txt) that you can write and send. It is not possible to post it on the screen as suggested by Sony Ericsson.

10) Internet
This is actually the WAP browser (xHTML compatible) of 6500. Mobile surfing is possible, but very limited on the browser. For more advanced uses of this function, I recommend using Opera Mini.
Conclusion
Much more complete than the Classic version, and this for a price just above, the 6500 Slide is really compelling part of its performance and excellent finish.
Some regret the lack of HSDPA connectivity, but the primary purpose of this device does not appear to be used as a mobile browser.
