It has an internal memory of 50MB, and has a TransFlash card reader. The Nokia E75 is compatible with GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100.
It is available in stores since March 2009 at 39 € (cons € NC).
Introduction
Officially unveiled in February, nearly six months after its first appearance on the canvas, the E75 complements the "new" professional range of Nokia, alongside the E51, E66 and E71.
The newcomer is also the first keyboard device to double the brand, and is placed in direct competition to the HTC S740. The purpose of this format? Offer a broad full keyboard for easy text editing, while keeping a phone in the format "classic" when closed.
Ownership and contents of the box:
At the exit of E66 and E71, we greatly appreciate the content boxes. In effect, these two models, the brand was to provide the leather case provided for the device. Unfortunately, Nokia has shown a little more stingy with the latter model, despite its higher selling price:
- The E75
- A battery of 1000 mah
- A USB cable
- A Micro SD Card 4GB
- A headset
- The various manuals and CDs
- Charger
If we win then 2GB compared to other models, it must forget the leather case and strap. Damage.
First grip
For its first home dual keypad, Nokia did not skimp on resources: the finish is excellent, and the hull is heavily loaded with metal, as on other models in the series E. A pledge of strength and durability.
The HTC S740 and its hull made entirely of plastic clearly can not cope with the appearance of the E75.
The front includes the general line of the E-series now, with a 2.4''screen, or the same dimensions as the E71.
Despite its relatively small keys, the phone keypad is comfortable to use, but too many buttons around the directional pad makes using it very ergonomic. Indeed, it regularly happens, for example press the "Home" by trying to press the left side of the pad.
The slider, which has a slight clearance in the closed position on our copy, offers large buttons size, rather than on the E71 in particular, and offers a comfortable typing equivalent to what the S740 offers, even if the use the first row of the keyboard is sometimes impeded by the upper part of the unit.
In view of the connection, we note the passing of the popular audio connector 3.5 mm (2.5 in other models) which allows compatibility with all conventional headphones. For the rest, Nokia we had already used to the standard Micro USB connector (which allows charging!) And Micro SD. Note also the absence of cache for the camera.
In use
Based on the well known Symbian S60, the E75 offers a familiar interface and easy to take in hand. The latter can always be customized through the use of third party themes and menus can be arranged as desired.
The fluidity of the system is similar to that proposed by the Finnish manufacturer's latest smartphones, while fully boot the system always take a good twenty seconds.
Specificity, however small: the E75 has two distinct modes that change the theme, wallpaper and shortcuts on your home screen. This feature allows such users to define a private, and other professional.
From a phone perspective, the E75 did not show any apparent defect: the sound quality during calls was quite good, as the network reception. Regarding autonomy, only 1000 mah battery (we find this value relative to a terminal job) will not work miracles: as with the E66, a few hours of use on appeal or Internet mode or GPS will be enough to clear the battery. E71 is the best example on this point with a battery 50% faster. Do not think however that the E75 is wrong on this point, it is simply the average phones.
The autonomy of the device found is located about two days in use "normal": a dozen of SMS, a few minutes of calls and some surfing over 3G or WiFi. During long sessions over 3G (or surfing Youtube for example), you're likely to see your battery indicator decrease visibly, do not expect to hold a full day under these conditions.
Photo and video
With its optical 3.2 million pixels, the E75 offers photographic performance respectable.
The lens seems resumed his brothers E66 and E71, and the picture quality is very comparable. Good point: Nokia has not forgotten that the autofocus can take clear shots, even close.
In dark environment, the LED flash for taking pictures drinking, but a real xenon flash (like the N82 for example) will be much more efficient in such situations.
In terms of videos, even balance: the E75 provides correct results, comparable to that offer his two older brothers.
As usual on this kind of apparatus: When taking a photo or video, it is possible to record the GPS data from the place.
Audio Player
Here again, things have changed little compared to other terminals in the range: the presentation of the music player has not changed, nor have the opportunities. The headphone output 3.5 mm format will be a big advantage of this model over other models in the range.
Good news: The FM radio is also the part with the added bonus of compatibility with RDS. As usual, however you must plug in a headset - which will serve as an antenna - to use this feature.
The speaker was less powerful than the terminals "N-series, and offers performance equivalent to the E71 and E66.
GPS
Like all new smartphones, the E75 includes a GPS receiver, A-GPS compatible. As a reminder, this technology uses a conventional GPS sensor, but can use the cellular network (via EDGE or 3G) to get information faster GPS. This generally provides a much faster positioning.
Nokia Maps is integrated into the system and allows direct use of the possibility of locating the aircraft. Cards are always free to download (via Nokia Map Loader), but the voice guidance requires a paid subscription. Therefore you can use the GPS without TTS absolutely free.
The interface of Nokia Maps is always clear and easy to learn, but other alternatives exist: Sygic, Route66, Garmin Mobile or Google Maps, for example, manage perfectly GPS E75. In terms of time location and GPS sensitivity, the E75 was not unworthy, being as efficient as most of the devices of the mark (one notch below the 5800 though).
Connectivity
Terminal "E Series" forces, the E75 is part of what Nokia does best in telephony, and thus connectivity. Thus, the network layer is compatibility with latest generation 3G + (HSDPA), EDGE, GPRS and GSM. It is always possible to manually disable 3G in the system settings if you want to save battery power.
WiFi (b / g) is naturally integrated and allows you to surf easily and without consuming your data plan, while Bluetooth allows easy sharing of files between devices (maximum speed of 90 KB / sec approximately) or use a stereo system (with A2DP).
Micro USB cable lets you use the E75 in the USB and does not need to install drivers for this. Good point: Like the N85, the USB cable can also recharge your phone, despite the presence of a dedicated outlet to the charger.
Conclusion
With its format more compact than the E71, its most successful line, its high quality finish, its dual keyboard and the screen quality, the Nokia E75 has convinced us. The sale price may be daunting, however, a few: appeared on the market at around 450 euros, the supplement is more than 100 euros compared to the E71, which offers the same functionality.
I bet that this price difference will narrow in the coming weeks, otherwise the E75 may have trouble finding its audience.
